Camp JCC Frequently Asked Questions

What are the ages of campers at camp?

Camp JCC is for campers entering 1st-8th grade.  We offer a staff-in-training program for campers entering 9th & 10th grade.

What is the start and end time of camp?

Arrival: Drop off begins at 8:45am for camp to begin at 9am

Departure: Camp ends at 3:30pm

AM Care: Begins at 7:00am

PM Care: Campers must be picked up by 6:00pm

How do campers get to and from camp?

Campers are dropped off and picked up at camp.  Unfortunately, we do not offer bus transportation to camp.

Once my child arrives at camp, what can they expect?

After walking over from AM care or being dropped off, campers are escorted by a staff member to their group table where their counselors are waiting for them to begin a fun filled day.

Does my family have to be Jewish to attend Camp JCC?

Camp JCC is open to EVERYONE!

We are a Jewish camp with cultural programs integrated into our schedule. Both campers and staff come from diverse backgrounds. All are welcome and feel comfortable at Camp JCC.

My family is Jewish. What kind of Jewish experiences will my children have?

We have Jewish programs that range from Israeli Culture activities, Israel Day, a visit from the Israeli Scouts, and of course celebrating Shabbat on Fridays! We will sing Jewish/Hebrew songs, and learn Hebrew words throughout the summer. All of our programs are infused with Jewish values of Chesed (respect), Kehila (community), and Chaverim (friendship).  We also bring over staff from Israel to infuse another aspect of Israeli culture into our camp.  Please contact us if you are interested in hosting one of our Israeli staff members for the summer.

Do campers have to bring their lunch to camp?

Yes and No…

Campers must bring a MEAT-FREE lunch Monday-Thursday.  We can refrigerate your camper’s lunch if necessary.

Each Friday, we have an all-camp cookout lunch.  We serve hot dogs, chips, vegetables, fruit, and ice pops.  Campers do not need to bring a lunch on Fridays!

We are a Kosher facility, so please do not pack any meat, shellfish, or pork.

We provide a Kosher, nut-free snack each afternoon.

My child has allergies.  How is this handled?

We are ALLERGY AWARE!

Currently, we have campers who are nut-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free.

We will work with all families to accommodate their allergy needs. All food provided by Camp JCC is nut-free and Kosher.

Please contact the Camp Office to discuss your camper’s individual allergy needs.

My child has special needs.  Do you offer a special program?

YES! At Camp JCC, we want every camper to have a summer that fits their personal needs and abilities. We welcome children entering grades 1-8 with physical, emotional, and developmental disabilities. This program offers 1:1 or 2:1 staff support to shadow your camper and is tailored to their specific needs. Our highly-trained staff gives each child a positive experience that builds self-confidence, increases independence, and fosters friendship.

An intake that includes a parent interview is required for acceptance into the program. Space is limited. For details, contact (330) 835-0052.

Do I send my child to camp if it is raining?

Of course! Camp operates rain or shine! There are going to be rainy days, but the campers are still going to have lots of fun. We try to utilize our indoor facility as much as possible during inclement weather.  We ask that campers wear rain gear on days when rain is expected.

Really hot days?

TO KEEP COOL:

We plan activities to do inside, extra swim time is scheduled, and there are sprinklers set up throughout the campsite. We make sure campers are drinking a lot of water and spending time in the shade. We ask that campers wear hats on very hot, sunny days.

Do you offer financial assistance?

Yes we offer financial assistance to those who qualify. You must complete our financial assistance packet and submit certain financial information to us by March 31st to be considered for assistance. For more information please call 330.835.0052 or email camp@shawjcc.org.

We are a J-Ticket Family.  How do I redeem my J-Ticket weeks or gift card?

Contact the camp office and we will take care of it for you.

330.835.0052 or camp@shawjcc.org

Where do I take my camper for AM Care & Pick them up from PM care?

AM and PM care are located inside the JCC building.  Take your child inside through the front doors of the JCC. Campers must be signed in and out of AM/PM care by a parent or guardian.

What is your cancellation policy?

When you register for camp, we reserve your child’s space. We will need to know in writing or email if you must cancel or change your reservation. If your child needs to withdraw from a camp week, we will refund your camp tuition minus the $25 non-refundable deposit.   If your child needs to withdraw from a camp, within two weeks of the first day of the camp week, we charge a $50 administrative fee in addition to the $25 deposit. We do not offer refunds when campers are absent. There are no make-up days if your child is absent.

Can I make changes to my child’s summer schedule after I have registered?

If you would like to change camps, as long as there is space, we will need to know one week prior. If the new camp has a higher fee, the difference in cost is due at the time of the change. Contact the camp office and we will make the changes for you.
